What is Magic?

More on SIGILS

A manifestation Sigil is an original creation that’s made by expressing a magical intent. That intent or desire is then converted into a glyph or monogram. The three laws of magic apply directly to making a Sigil. The Inner Eye has to clearly imagine what it is you want to manifest.

The next step is to write out a sentence that concisely expresses your desire. Remember; as above so below. Be careful what you wish for. From that sentence it’s easy enough to create a glyph that can be seeded into the Unconscious. As I said earlier the Conscious mind is very good at tricking us into believing in its narrow view of the Mundane World. In Sigilwork it’s absolutely necessary that you be extremely clear about what you want to manifest.

If there’s any ambiguity about the sentence that expresses your desire you can be sure the Conscious will add a mischievous twist of the literal. Although the statement of intent has to be precise it must also be brief and to the point; using only enough words to clearly convey the meaning.

To complicate matters slightly your statement of magical intent must not use any negative terms. This is extremely important. I don’t know why this happens. I just know that it does. The Unconscious will interpret every message you send in positive terms because that’s the way it views the Mundane World. If you say to it; Please don’t let me be hit by a bus, it will interpret the sentence as a desire for the experience of a life-threatening traffic accident facilitated by a crowded omnibus at peak hour. Your Unconscious will simply reword the sentence to read; Please let me be hit by a bus.

All experiences are possible in the Mundane World. All you have to do is ask. But you have to word your requests very, very carefully.

When Spare constructed his sentences he began with; “This is my wish.’ Then he added a brief description of what he desired. You could also say; ‘This is my desire,’ or ‘This is my will.’ I’ve tried simply saying, ‘I want,’ or just writing down the desire. Both these approaches seem to work fine for me. When you’re starting off with Sigils the statement should be written out in full. As you get practice you’ll be able to visualise the first part quite quickly or might not even need to write it down at all. So let’s assume you’ve written out your wish. I’ll use this sentence as a simple example;

I want a pair of dark blue socks.
